Former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Prof. Yusuf Usman, has strongly rejected any alleged plan by the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), to wage war on Fulani people.

According to a media post yesterday by the professor, such a move is unacceptable, dangerous, and counterproductive, warning that it could further inflame ethnic tensions and threaten national unity.

He stressed that the Fulani people, like all other ethnic groups in Nigeria, are citizens who deserve protection, justice, and inclusion, not collective blame or military targeting.

Prof. Usman noted that General Musa is now a political office holder and must approach security challenges with a civilian mindset that prioritises dialogue, diplomacy, and intelligence-led solutions rather than brute force.

According to him, history has shown that military confrontation against communities does not bring lasting peace but instead deepens resentment and insecurity.

The NHIS Executive Secretary emphasised that Nigeria’s security problems require non-violent, inclusive, and sustainable solutions that address root causes such as poverty, marginalization, and weak governance. He called for open dialogue with affected communities, traditional leaders, and stakeholders as the path to lasting peace.

Professor Yusuf warned that endless warfare will continue to fail if adopted as a strategy, urging the Federal Government to embrace peace-building, justice, and national cohesion in tackling insecurity across the country.
